Buy A Coffee and Help Send a Kid to Camp

Camp Day Camp Day on Wednesday, May 15th

Tim Hortons Annual Camp Day - the single largest fundraiser for the Tim Horton Children's Foundation - is being held on Wednesday, May 15, 2002. Buy a coffee on this day and help give almost 9,000 children, who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it, a chance to go to camp.

On Camp Day, Tim Hortons stores donate their entire coffee proceeds for the 24-hour period, as well as funds raised through other events and activities, to the Children's Foundation. The tradition of Camp Day was started and continues to be fully supported by Tim Hortons store owners, who in 2001, raised $4 million (CDN)!

"What makes Camp Day so successful is the commitment and enthusiasm of our store owners and their staff," said Don Schroeder, President, Tim Horton Children's Foundation. "It is largely due to their support and the public's generosity on Camp Day that we are able to open more camps, create enhanced programs and help more children."

The Foundation currently operates five camps located in Parry Sound, Ontario; Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia; Kananaskis Country, Alberta; Quyon, Quebec and Campbellsville, Kentucky, USA. In June, the Foundation will be opening its sixth camp in St. George, Ontario (near Brantford). This year-round outdoor education centre will welcome summer campers, local day campers as well as school children, throughout the year.

"This is much more than a typical camping experience," said Keith Publicover, Executive Director, Tim Horton Children's Foundation. "Our Foundation is committed to the future of these young people; to helping them develop the skills and self-esteem that will benefit them throughout their lives."

A program unique to the Foundation is its Youth Tracking Program, initiated in 1997. The Youth Tracking Program is a wilderness adventure and leadership development program that invites previous summer camp participants between the ages of 13 and 18 back to camp. After completing up to seven years in this program, participants may be eligible for scholarships to attend college or university.

Tim Hortons store owners work with local schools, churches, agencies and organizations to select participants whose families couldn't otherwise afford to send them to camp. The Children's Foundation covers all the costs of sending these kids to camp. In addition to Camp Day, funding for the Children's Foundation comes from year-round public donations collected through counter and drive-thru coin boxes located at Tim Hortons outlets and other special events, and donations.
