Buy A Coffee and Help Send a Kid to Camp

Camp Day Fundraiser Camp Day Fundraiser on Wednesday, May 16th

May 2001 - Tim Hortons annual Camp Day - the single largest fundraiser for the Tim Horton Children's Foundation - is being held on Wednesday, May 16th. Buy a coffee on this day and help to give economically disadvantaged children from your community a chance to go to camp.

On Camp Day, Tim Hortons stores donate their coffee sales for the 24-hour period, as well as funds raised through other events and activities, to the Children's Foundation. In 2000, Camp Day raised $3.3 million (CDN), and more than 6,000 children benefited from a camp experience.

"This is much more than a typical camping experience for selected local children," said Keith Publicover, Executive Director, Tim Horton Children's Foundation. "Our Foundation is committed to the future of these young people; to helping them develop the skills and self-esteem that will benefit them throughout their lives."

The Children's Foundation currently operates four camps across Canada in Parry Sound, Ontario; Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia; Kananaskis, Alberta; and Quyon, Quebec. In June, the Foundation will be opening its first camp in the United States in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

"Our new Kentucky camp will allow an additional 750 children a year to benefit from a summer camp experience," says Don Schroeder, President of the Children's Foundation. "It is largely due to the generosity of Tim Hortons store owners and the public on Camp Day that we are able to open more camps, create enhanced programs and help more children."

Construction will soon begin on the Children's Foundation's second camp in Ontario located in St. George (near Brantford). This year-round outdoor education centre, targeted to open in June 2002, will welcome summer campers, local day campers as well as school children, throughout the year.

A program unique to the Foundation is its Tracking Program, initiated in 1997. The Tracking Program is a wilderness adventure and youth leadership development program that invites back up to 10% of the previous summer camp participants between the ages of 13 and 18. After completing the program, participants may be eligible for scholarships to attend college or university.

Tim Hortons store owners work with local schools, churches, agencies and organizations to select appropriate participants and the Children's Foundation covers all the costs of sending these deserving children to camp.

In addition to Camp Day, funding for the Children's Foundation comes from year-round public donations collected through counter and drive-thru coin boxes located at Tim Hortons outlets, as well as through donations from individual store owners, The TDL Group Ltd. (Operators of Tim Hortons), suppliers and other special events.
