March 2, 2000 - Anyone with a new black Tim Hortons Home Brewer, bought in October 1999 through February 2000 is being asked to return the coffee pot portion only of the brewer to their nearest Tim Hortons store. The company has learned of a manufacturing defect which may result in a possible handle breakage problem, which could potentially cause injury from hot liquid or glass breakage. Therefore, Tim Hortons has issued an immediate coffee pot recall across Canada and the United States. IT IS ONLY THE COFFEE POT THAT IS BEING RECALLED: NOT THE ENTIRE BREWER.
"We want to be proactive and replace all of the coffee pots in all of the brewers that we've sold, even if the customer hasn't had a problem," said Paul House, President & COO. "We will try to replace them with new coffee pots as quickly as possible."
Customer Recall Procedures:
- Bring the coffee pot to any Tim Hortons store.
- At the store, fill out a recall form that the store will then forward to the Recall Centre.
- The customer will receive $5 in gift certificates for returning the coffee pot.
- A new coffee pot will be couriered directly to the customer's home as quickly as possible.
- For further information, customers can call (toll-free): 1-888-BREW-TIM. (1-888-273-9846)
"We certainly apologize for the inconvenience this recall will cause our customers, but we feel it is essential to take this kind of full-scale precaution for safety reasons," added House. "We thank our loyal customers for their patience in this matter, and hope that if they purchased one for themselves, or as a gift for someone, they will heed the recall notice. We are anxious for everyone who bought the black-coloured Tim Hortons home brewer to bring the coffee pot back to us, and we're offering $5 in gift certificates to customers who take the trouble to bring the pot back."
Since October 1999, Tim Hortons stores in Canada sold over 30,000 Tim Hortons home brewers. The new all-black unit can be differentiated from the old Tim Hortons brewers sold several years ago, which came only in white. The recall is only for the new 1999 Tim Hortons home brewer coffee pots.
