OAKVILLE, ON. - December 30, 2010 - Brave and selfless Canadians fighting the war in Afghanistan, received a personal thank you from the President and CEO of Tim Hortons Don Schroeder this Christmas, when he travelled to the Kandahar army base over the Holidays.
Schroeder was part of the Team Canada Christmas Day Tour of Canadian military bases in Kandahar, Afghanistan led by Defence Minister Peter MacKay.
During the two day trip, Schroeder handed out hundreds of Tim Cards, served free coffee at the base's Tim Hortons location and helped serve Christmas dinner to the troops along with other delegates such as Minister of International Cooperation Bev Oda, Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk, Defence Secretary and Tory MP Laurie Hawn and Hockey Night in Canada's Don Cherry.
"I was honored to personally meet and shake hands with so many of our fine Canadian men and women serving as part of the joint taskforce in Kandahar," said Schroeder. "The ultimate sacrifice they are making for the rest of us back home is simply amazing and inspirational. Tim Hortons is proud to support them whenever we can and I was thrilled to be able to bring them a little taste of home this Christmas."
Tim Hortons' support of Canadian troops overseas is longstanding and includes free coffee and donut days at the Kandahar Tim Hortons location throughout the year, free coffee to Veterans at all restaurants across Canada on Remembrance Day and waiving all fees and operating costs typically associated with a franchise from the Kandahar location and directing the funds back to military family support programs through the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS).
