Canada, get ready for the freeze. Tim Hortons launches new Frozen Lemonade

Thrill to the chill for just $1

Canada, get ready for the freeze. Tim Hortons launches new Frozen LemonadeOAKVILLE, ON - April 16, 2012 - Canadians should brace themselves for an icy thrill when they visit Tim Hortons restaurants. Today, Tim Hortons launches the ultimate, tangy refresher:  New Frozen Lemonade. Made with real lemon, the chilling new beverage is available in two delicious flavors: original and raspberry-flavored lemonade. Both are fat-free and available all summer long for only $1 (small size).

According to the experts, Canadians may experience some physical changes when they drink an icy, cold Tim Hortons Frozen Lemonade. Dr. Stephen Cheung, Canada Research Chair, and Professor of Kinesiology at Brock University, reports that the impact of extreme cold on the body can produce a variety of physiological responses.

"For the average person, when they're drinking Tim Hortons Frozen Lemonade, they  may feel as though a Nor'easter is blowing inside their head - that's the sensation we informally refer to as 'brain freeze'," says Dr. Cheung, who is also known as "Dr. Freeze" for his research on ice water immersion. "This sensation is caused when something ice cold touches the sensitive nerves on the roof of the mouth. Don't worry, your brain isn't really freezing, it just feels that way for a moment or two," he adds.

"No one knows cold better than Canadians," says Dave McKay, marketing director for beverages at Tim Hortons. "When Tim Hortons was creating the perfect drink to beat the summer heat, we knew it had to be ice cold.  We're confident that Tim Hortons new Frozen Lemonade will hit the spot for guests looking for an ultimate thirst quencher this summer, and at one dollar, it's a great value."

In honor of the new Frozen Lemonade, Tim Hortons is sharing some interesting freezing facts:

  • The medical term for brain freeze is Spheno Palatine Gangleoneuralgia - we don't have a medical term for Tim Hortons Frozen Lemonade, but we do know it will freeze thirst.
  • The recommended temperature at ice level at an indoor rink varies to accommodate external weather conditions - but Tim Hortons Frozen Lemonade is always served at the perfect icy cold temperature.
  • Canadian Wood Frogs spend the winter frozen. In fact, 65 per cent of their bodies become ice. Researchers have discovered that the wood frog's breathing and heartbeat actually stop as winter approaches.

Served fresh to order, Tim Hortons Frozen Lemonade is available now at participating locations across Canada.
